On Dies Natalis 2024 of Ghent University, Prof. Ülo Mander (University of Tartu) will be awarded an honorary doctorate for his scientific merits. Therefore, the Faculty of Sciences and the Department of Geography invite you to the public lecture in relation to the official ceremony.

Prof. Mander is Professor in geography and landscape ecology. His interdisciplinary research - combining geography, ecology and natural sciences - focuses on wetlands, their role in climate change and solution-oriented approaches. During his impressive academic career, he contributed substantially to the international development and applications of the discipline of landscape ecology. During the lecture, he will present the main aspects of his research, focussing on the nitrogen cycle in wetlands and peatlands, its links to global climate change and possible land-use practices that could help reduce the production of this greenhouse gas in the future.
